Google/YouTube is reportedly looking to seal the deal to acquire the popular video game-streaming service Twitch for more than $1 billion, according to a report in Variety

The San Francisco-based is a live streaming video game service that allows gamers to upload and watch free gameplay videos from XBox and Playstation 4 consoles. Users also have the option to purchase ad-free subscriptions, and Twitch claims that it has an active monthly user base of 45 million with more than one million of them uploading videos every month. The company also has deals to distribute shows from partners like CBS Interactive’s GameSpot, Joystiq and Destructoid. Twitch has raised an estimated $35 million in funding since its launch in 2011.

If completed, the deal would be a monumental acquisition for YouTube, which is arguably the the number one video streaming platform around the world with over a billion users worldwide. YouTube itself was acquired in 2006 by Google for $1.65 billion.
