Google Shopping Express Expands Same-Day Delivery To Manhattan
Google announced Monday that it would be expanding its Google Shopping Express service to Manhattan and West Los Angeles residents. The service launched last year in the San Francisco Bay Area, and Google Shopping Express General VP of Operations, Jenna Owens, wrote in a blog post that the company hopes to be rolling out the service to more locations soon.
“In the coming months, we’ll be expanding delivery to other parts of Los Angeles, Bel-Air, Beverly Hills, Pacific Palisades, Playa del Rey, Playa Vista and West Hollywood,” Owens wrote.
“We’re also working to bring Shopping Express to shoppers in Queens and Brooklyn in the coming months.”
In a special promotional offer, new users can sign up and receive six months of free, unlimited deliveries and an additional $10.00 to spend on your first purchase from any of its participating merchants. After six months, users will reportedly be charged $4.99 flat delivery fee per store. Google seems to be making a direct effort to compete with Amazon’s popular Amazon Prime service that offers free two-day delivery plus features like unlimited instant streaming with Prime Instant Video for $99.00 per year.
Google, for now, seems to have the upper hand in the battle if you can take Prime Instant Video out of the equation. The same-day delivery service allows customers to buy everyday necessities from a range of local stores like Costco, Fairway Market, Target, and Walgreens. And for New Yorkers at least, delivery service — especially from stores we frequent quite a bit — is truly a Godsend.
You can use the Google Shopping Express site to browse for items or download the Android and iOS apps for buying on the go. The company hopes to continue expanding the services in cities around the country and adding more merchants to its expanding list.
